Four!

My baby is 4 years old today. He is such his Daddy's little boy! He loves to help him in the garage and the yard.
He is constantly 'fixing' on his bike.

He is going to need his own tool chest before long.

He even asks Daddy for tool advice.

If he's not 'fixing' on something he is building something....just like Daddy.

He is always wanting to make a clubhouse or a doghouse...for the dog we don't have.

Happy Birthday Bubby!!

I'm tired

What a day!! By 9:30am this morning I had:
  • stripped all the bed
  • washed all bedclothes
  • hung bedclothes on line
  • washed all rugs
  • hung rugs on line
  • mopped out 2 bathrooms
  • mopped kitchen floor
  • checked Facebook a lot
  • fed, dressed and rushed Sissy out door to bus
  • fed and dressed myself and Bubby
  • off to the chiropractor

I had every intention of heading to Target and the mall to get some freebies but Bubby somehow lost a shoe between the house and the chiropractor. Not sure what happened but when we arrived in town he had one shoe on. While laying there on the chiropractor table I decided this was someones way of telling me I should just stay in town. I really had no business running up the highway for a couple of freebies. If we left town I would have to buy him another pair of shoes and that was just crazy. So, I made due at the Dollar Store and Walmart. I got what I needed and I was ok...but I still need a Target fix.

Tomorrow I plan on sitting on the couch and watching a movie.

Petting Zoo

The local FFA sponsored a free petting zoo for the kids the other day. We don't have a wide variety of events in our area so you have to jump at the chance for a free local event for the kids. A couple of mom's and myself headed on down to let the kids see all the 'exotic' animals. They had a small pony for the kids to pet.

A pretty little calf. And two of the sweetest cleanest pigs I've ever seen.
There were also goats, rabbits and some of the high school kids had brought their own little puppies for the kids to pet.
Bubby, of course, enjoyed feeding the chicken the most. Go figure....

Bookclub notebooks

I decided I needed to make everyone in Book Club these super cute little notebooks...since I made them I can call them super cute...all right?
Really it was just a good excuse to get out all my Stampin' Up! Office Accoutrement set.

Trying to Focus

A friend of mine posted this quote on Facebook this morning and it's so what I needed to see/hear.

Sometimes we have to let go of what was, ignore the shouts of doubts and misperceptions and set our focus on what can be. That's my goal today!--Pastor Bob

This is now my goal for today also! I know I really couldn't be any more vague here but I just need to let go of some nagging feelings. I'm going to let go of relationships that once where cause they really are no more. I'm going to ignore the voices that tell me to give it one more try and I'm going to focus on the wonderful that I have in my life now.
This photo has nothing to do with this post but I had to post it. The Hunter is off in the woods turkey hunting while this HUGE Tom is strutting right under my mom's kitchen window.
Happy Friday!

Trying to Make Sense of it all

I've joined yet another book club. We are all lover's of Jane Austen and all books classic so we decided to form a club where we read books we SHOULD have read by now but haven't. (doing our best Wilson impersonation)

We decided our first selection should be Sense and Sensibility because most of us had seen the movie and it was a small book...i.e. should be a easier read than say Anna Karenina or something.

I REALLY love this movie. I've seen all versions. I can recite most lines from the movie and I have the soundtrack from what I refer to as the Kate Winslet version. I thought I had read the book already but apparently I hadn't got all the way through it cause there was stuff at the end that I hadn't heard of.

We all enjoyed the book and declared our first read a success. Cindy has picked the second book, Walden by Henry David Thoreau....yeah...THAT Walden. I gotta tell ya...I'm on page 30 and I'm not feeling it. He REALLY needs to get to the point already! Cindy says it's about the journey not the destination but I'm a control freak and I kinda like to know where I'm going. If I get to the end of this journey and he STILL hasn't got to the point someone is going to be in trouble. It's kinda like Lost. If it's not all explained in the end I'm going to hurt someone!

Maybe that's why we are reading this...so I can learn to let go a bit and enjoy the journey. We'll see....

Sugar, screaming and BFF's

We partied this weekend as only Carly and Sam could. I downloaded the iCarly theme song for Sissy this weekend and I can't get it out of my head! Go ahead...I dare ya to go on over here and listen to it. The boys were out of town turkey hunting so I thought this would be a good weekend for a slumber party. A slumber party with 6 little 7 year olds. Sigh....they were so much fun but have so much energy!! I can now see why Kate Gosslin would want to go clear across the country to humiliate herself on Dancing with the Stars. I would want to get away too! I had considered doing some kind of craft or project with them but they just sugared up, played outside till way after dark then came in for more sugar. Thank God my friend Haley brought me a coke so I could keep up with them.
There was much screaming, laughing and saying things like O-M-G! and LOL and BFF. They are like 7 going on 17 it was too funny. Haley and I just sat on the couch and laughed at their craziness all night. They all seemed to have a good time. After they left Saturday morning Sis and I headed to an American Girl tea party at the local library and then we came home and slept the afternoon away. Very peaceful day.....after the screaming girls left.

Doing nothing!

Both kids received a care package from my mom for Sissy's birthday. There were lots of little toys and candy in each box. Sissy received a Dove Chocolate Bunny and promptly hid it away cause she knew what her brother would do if he found it!
So, one day last week he's being awfully quite and I find him hid behind some toys in the playroom munching down on the bunny's ears. I asked him what he was doing and he said, "Nothing".

I just picked the whole thing up and throw it all away. Maybe she won't remember she even got a chocolate bunny.

A good home

A home does not exist to impress other people--
it should be filled with all the things that delight you.

Spring Evenings

It's been so nice here lately that we have all been longing to eat outside. Our patio furniture is still at my parents in storage (being used on their patio) so we just open the windows and pretend for the most part.
The kids have been able to sit outside and eat their dinner. It's been kinda nice...they are outside and we are inside....but still close enough through the open window to yell at them to finish their meal and not fling it to the chickens.

What's for Dinner?

Grilled chicken!!

Update: I didn't kill the hen for dinner. She was looking in the window and I just happen to be cooking chicken for dinner. Wonder if she could smell it??

Seven!

Not sure how I got a seven year old but I have one now.
Seems like just last week she was such a little girl.

All she wanted for her birthday was an iPod. She does listen to mine quite a bit so we went ahead and got her an MP3 player of her own.
She was so excited!!
It took me HOURS and HOURS (days) to load the music onto it. I personally don't think it's as user friendly as my iPod Touch but that is ok. After I FINALLY figured out how to get some Taylor Swift on it for her it was all good.
My Aunt Meme came to visit and help us celebrate this weekend. She brought goodies for all of us not just the birthday girl.
It was a pretty low-key weekend. Meme and I did some shopping on Saturday and I found some great deals at TJMaxx. Sunday we had church, cake, lots of listening to music and then we finished up the night with a bonfire and some s'mores. Beautiful weather and good weekend.
Happy Birthday Sissy!

It's in my genes

When I smell fresh cut grass I always think of my Grandma Fern. She loved to mow the yard. Let me rephrase that....she LIVED to mow her yard twice a week whether it needed it or not. She used to mow that grass within an inch of it's life! If by chance she would let you mow for her she would follow you around the yard making sure it was done the correct way. The lines HAD to be just right and STRAIGHT. If you didn't have straight lines then God help you. You also had to throw all the grass the same direction so when you were done the clippings were all piled in a straight line and then you got to help rake them all up.

Apparently I received some of her genes cause I love to mow too. I like to be on the rider but the push mower will do...I just like mowing. People leave you alone when you are mowing. They think you are working. They don't know I'm out there talking to myself...working out all my issues and problems. (Or maybe they do and that is why they leave me alone).
Even with Grandma Fern's genes in me I could care less about the lines. I like to get it done cause I have a lot of other things to do too. On the other hand The Hunter used to work for a landscaping company and this about KILLS him. Apparently he takes after MY grandma more than me cause he wants the criss-cross lines too. Since we don't have a zero-turn radius mower I think it takes too much time to create those lines. And besides...who we trying to impress?? The 6 cars that go by in a day?Not only to I disregard the lines I also disregard the speed limit on the mower. I like to get it mowed and get it mowed FAST. This was much to my dad's dismay. Growing up I would be on the rider and I would ALWAYS be going too fast for my dad's taste. (Really he just thinks I drive everything too fast.) He would stand in the yard CONSTANTLY telling me I was going too fast and to put in level 2 not 4. I hated put-putting around the yard going 2mph. The minute he would go in the house I would crank it to level 4 and zoom across the yard and then most likely run over a small tree...but we aren't going to talk about that here cause it's MY blog after all.
(Photo cortesy of Howardlawnmowingracing.com)

Basically what this comes down to is someone has been yelling at me my whole life about how I mow the yard. My dad, my grandma and now my husband. My lines are off, I drive too fast and now the big thing at our house is how low I cut the grass. The Hunter wants it cut high. I know...it's healthier for the grass and supposed to look better but we don't have a yard full of REAL grass. Oh it's all green but it's not what you would call lush subdivision grass. If you mow it high then within 4 days it looks like it needs mowed again. I don't have time to mow the grass twice a week. When I get to Grandma's age I most likely will but for right now I want it cut short and I don't want to mess with it till next week. So, last year we went round and round with how low I had the deck on the mower.

This year The Hunter fixed the issue....He put a bolt on level 4 so I can't mow any lower!! I guess I'll be mowing it as high as he wants...or finding a wrench.

Boys!!

Hey mom! It's warm out...I just peed on the porch come see!

Modern devices of torture

When you think of implements of torture something medieval probably pops into your head doesn't it? You think of being pulled apart on the rack or boiled oil...normally that is what I would think of but not anymore.
I've decided implements of torture are all around us and we don't even know about it! I go to a chamber of horrors everyday AND I pay extra for it! It's crazy I know. What is this place you ask.....it's the gym (dum dum dum).
I know some of you are thinking 'it's just the gym....you walk on the treadmill for awhile and then you leave...what's the big deal.' There is so much more there than the treadmill I tell ya!

They have the Bosu Ball. Who thought of this?? It's a ball that's flat on one side. Really? If a ball is flat on one side you should probably throw it out right? Noooo...not at the gym. At the gym you put the Bosu Ball on the ground....ball side down and STAND ON IT! You balance and do squats...it's not pretty. You can also do push-ups with it and many other horrible things.
Remember these? They are fun aren't they? You used to go out in the yard as a kid and throw the ball around. You played dodge ball and other fun games. Not anymore! These exercise balls come in all different sizes for many different types of torture.

You are supposed to balance and work your core muscles with these exercise balls. You can do push-ups, sit-ups and many different kinds of core exercises. (By the way...this is SO me in the picture. You can recognize me by my rock hard abs...or the ankle tat but we aren't going to talk about that.)

This piece of equipment is REALLY fun! It's a perfectly normal looking ball but it weighs 4 to 12 pounds! While doing sit-ups, squats,or lunges you hold this ball or throw it into the air and catch it. While using it you think it's no big deal but later when you try to reach your hand up to brush your hair out of your eyes you will scream in pain. It's great!
This is a new piece of torture device that I've never seen before...the orange cone. It so looks harmless I know but watch out!
While in plank position (as demonstrated below) you take one arm off the ground and touch the stupid orange cone. It's a ridiculous exercise used to strengthen your core muscles and make you all athletic looking.
This is the side plank exercise. You think it's all easy...go ahead give it a try! I'll wait for 2 minutes and you let me know how you are feeling afterwards.

I didn't want to show actual pictures of me doing this plank exercises cause it would be too intimidating looking for you. It might make you feel bad about yourself. No matter what anyone tells you I do them perfectly. My butt is down...my back is straight and I'm perfectly in line. (It's my blog...I'll say what I want!)

This is the ultimate torture device...the bicycle. Riding a bike used to be fun and leisurely but now it includes a ridiculous amount of energy! This bike is supposed to simulate riding up a sheer cliff or riding up a sheer cliff in mud. Who does that?? Who rides in mud? Shouldn't you stop and get off the bike and go around the mud?? Noooo...that would be too logical. Not only do I love this bike so much that I pay extra for the class everyday I also fight to get one of the 8 bikes our gym has to offer. Some set their alarms at 6am so they can be the first to call in to reserve a bike. Then once we are in class we pay someone to yell at us to put more tension to simulate MORE mud. Crazy! But it works. It burns calories you didn't even know you had!

Why do I do all this? Why do I put myself through this? So I can drink this....

and eat these!

It's so worth it!

Easter Wrap-Up

Another post about eggs...wow! this is a shocker.

I had been told I couldn't color the brown eggs for Easter but I felt rather silly going out to buy store bought eggs when we are getting almost a dozen a day.  We get one to two white ones a day so I have been saving them just in case the browns ones didn't work.  But after reading online I decided the brown ones would color just fine.

So...basically...I have brown eggs and we colored them and it worked.  End of post.  No...that's not the end of the post...that would be just plain silly.  I have to walk you through all the steps now.
I used the same food coloring dye I use for cake icing.  I measured out a cup of warm water and desolved some dye in the water till I got the right color.  Then added 1/4 cup of white vinegar.

Careful cause you will dye your white sink if you aren't careful.  I'm just saying...
All in all the brown egg coloring went well.  Bubby was very into orange this year and the darkest brown egg turned the darkest orange.  Everyone was happy with the results so I don't have to worry about buying white eggs or the store egg coloring kits anymore.
The Easter Bunny tried to bring the kids things that where fun but they still needed.  I'm so tired of all the crappy toys and candy that's been coming into the house.  So, Bubby got a beach towel, bike helmet and horn, spiderman band-aids and ice-pack (for when he fall off his bike) and things to help daddy in the garden.
Sissy got a small scrapbook, new Crocs, a swimsuit and things to help daddy in the garden with.  Don't worry...they both received a chocolate Easter bunny and some candy but not a ton.
They both also received their most prized gift....Flarp putty.  It's like silly putty but it makes a flarp sound when you press it into the cup.  Super exciting!
There are no pictures of Bubby that are in focus...sorry.  TO-MUCH-SUGAR!  The boy loves his 'Easter beans'.
After Easter baskets it was time to hunt for eggs.  Notice Sissy's feet not touching the ground....they are SUPER excited!!
We really had a most relaxing day.  Church, egg-hunts, steak on the grill and later an evening with friends.  Very relaxing!  Couldn't ask for a better day.  Hope you had a happy Easter too!
