Merry Christmas 2010

One of the most glorious messes in the world is the mess created in the living room on Christmas day. Don't clean it up too quickly. - Andy Rooney

Friends with Phenomenal Counterspace

Who doesn't love making Christmas cookies?!  My friend Meagan and I always exchange presents but we both had so much going on this year and had yet to make cookies so we  thought this year we would make cookies and watch holiday movies all day long too.

I borrowed a cookie press from a friend but I think I'm going to stick with the cookie cutter type cookies.  SO much easier!!  It took FOREVER just to make 2 pans.  There were many jokes about my ability to use a cookie press and it was just not worth it.

We had a holiday movie marathon while eating lot's of cookies and chips and salsa (of course).  It's a Wonderful Life, Deck the Halls, Christmas Vacation, and Elf.  On the way home the kids watched Funny Farm in the back seat so I got almost all of them in for the day.

I think this is a GREAT holiday tradition we should continue for years to come.....

especially since she has GREAT counter space.  You see how many cookies these counters can hold??!  It's phenomenal!!

Fry Box Treat Box

I saw these cute little boxes on a blog...which I can't remember which blog right now.  I went to a local fast food place and got one of their fry boxes, took it apart and traced it.  I thought it turned out really cute!  I used it for a little gift I gave my mom for her birthday.

Disclaimer:  I did not eat the fries!  I asked for an empty fry box.  Why I was at this particular eating establishment I will not disclose....I may or may not have been getting a Coke.  I'm sure this little box is all kinds of copyrighted but I swear I gave it as a gift and will not be selling them.  The only way I will be selling little boxes like this is if I get the Cricut cartridge that cuts them out.  (I have since found out there is a cartridge that cuts out a similar box)  I will not be mass producing these little boxes...i.e. cutting them out by hand.  Life is short and I don't have elves working for me.

Winter Solstice...only going to get warmer from here on out!

Winter is the time for comfort, for good food and warmth, for the touch of a friendly hand and for a talk beside the fire:  It is the time for home. --Edith Sitwell, British Poet

Cowboy Gift tags

Busy busy busy....crafting, creating, cooking, baking, and shopping.  I was up till 1:30am last night.  Everyone went to bed, the house was quiet and I had a burst of energy and thought...'I'm going to get some stuff done!'  I did laundry and dishes and just basically straightened up the house.   So much easier to do without little feet and helping hands.

Tags for Sonya. I used the Basic shapes Cricut cartridge to create these.

What I learned from watching Soaps

Contrary to popular belief I'm not one of those stay at home mom's who lays around on the couch watching Soaps all day.  Really I don't know any of those kind of stay at home moms but I've been told repeatedly (by people who don't take care of their own children) this must be what it's like to stay at home all day.

This past week I became the cliché.  We didn't get out of the house much cause Bubby was sick.  I spent almost 2 whole days just laying on the couch with him...which is not like him or me!  Since he was sick he could care less what we watched so I started moving through all the Ellen shows I had recorded.  Everyday I DVR Ellen and Oprah and I've been so busy lately that I was about 3 weeks behind.  It's pretty easy to get through a couple of Oprah shows cause I can usually tell pretty quickly if I want to watch her show or not.  Hit info and see she is going to interview some guy in prison who killed a bunch of people and I can delete it and move on to the next one.  The Ellen show is different.  Her show isn't all about what guest she has on.  Her funny stuff could happen at any time.

See what I mean...you just never know what she is going to do that is funny.  At the end of every Ellen show I get about 3 minutes of the beginning of Days of Our Lives.  I've never watched Days.  Back in high school and college I did watch All My Children, One Life to Live and General Hospital...but that has been a LONG time ago.  I kinda got away from them cause this was back before DVR.  I was lucky to have a TV in college and a VCR was just unheard of!  Needless to say I got out of the Soap habit.

Sidenote:  I was in the video store the other day and was trying to find a movie to buy.  The clerk mentioned I could maybe find it on Half.com and then went on to explain to me what this website was. I told her I knew what it was and had bought and sold on there before.  She then went on to tell me how she sold all her textbooks on there.  I told her that was a great idea and wished I could have done that.    It was then that I realized I was in college BEFORE the internet...or World Wide Web as it was called then...and I decided not to mention that to her.

Anyway....like I was saying I watched almost 3 weeks worth of Days...3 minutes at a time this week and this is what I have figured out:

Never marry an extremely good looking guy with a foreign accent.  It never turns out well.

But if you do and then it falls apart and he takes your kids away from you don't worry...another handsome guy will come along and make it all better.

I've also found out one can live in a coffin buried alive for MONTHS!  This lady has been in this tomb that is rigged with video screen forever but of course, her hair and make-up are perfect.

I don't know how she got in there or where she is going to the bathroom....I'm pretty worried about her.  She seems pretty calm about it though.  I must have missed some episodes but all of a sudden she is out of the tomb and another woman is in there.  This is woman has big hair and looks pretty good too.

Speaking of good hair....I've discovered even while in prison one can have good hair.

This is has been such a learning experience this week.  It's also been a VERY boring week and I can't wait to get back to normal...whatever that is.

Scenic Season Snowman Card

I had a lady order 30 snowman cards this week and I have to tell ya I had the hardest time coming up with a design.  I just couldn't get into making a snowman right now for some reason.  What I REALLY wanted to make was a card with my new Scenic Season stamp set from Stampin' Up!  So, I finally figured out a way to incorporate both of them and I came up with what I think is a pretty fabulous card. After I allowed myself to use my new stamp set the card was a breeze!

The trees are from the Scenic Season, Snowman from Holiday Tag Team and the greeting from Best Yet.  All from Stampin' Up!  I used SU's Crystal Effects and Dazzling Diamonds on the snow.  The tag shape I stamped the snowman on is from Cricut's Songbird cartridge.  Again...SO glad I bought that cartridge.

After getting the cards put together yesterday I got carried away and make a couple of tags too.  They are so cute!!

After I got all the cards and tags together I realized I needed a cute way to ship them.  Using a design I found at Splitcoaststampers I created this super cute little box to hold all the cards.

I hope she likes them!  Now...to get MY Christmas cards completed.

Happy early Thursday morning.

Forest Friends Tag

I made this card at a Christmas tag workshop a couple of weeks ago and I just fell in love with it.  I decided this was going to be my Christmas tag this year!  I've since made dozens of them.

The little deer is from Stampin' Up! Forest Friends stamp set.  I love this little stamp set.  The little Bambi-like animals are just the cutest!!

Holiday Tag Team Cards

I needed to make a couple of quick simple cards for a lady and I really like how the red and white card turned out.  So simple but very clean looking.  I used the Holiday Tag Team stamp set from Stampin' Up!

This card is small and could be easily used as a gift tag.

I used the Snow Swirled stamp set for this blue and white gift tag card.

I forgot to take pics till after I had bagged up the cards.

A Mouse-Click Away

I hope everyone had a fabulously pecan pie filled Thanksgiving holiday.  We were gone for a couple of days visiting family.  I got back to town just in town to see Miracle on 34th Street on the big screen.  Our little local theatre shows a christmas movie every year to raise money for our Christmas Market.  I think it's so much fun to see one of my favorite movies on the big screen!
I've been busy the past two days getting Christmas set up around the house.  We have our tree but we are trying not to rush it this year and have put it in a bucket of water outside for a day or two.  Can't wait for it to fill the living room!

Here is one of the little notebooks I just completed.  The colors seem to be a little off in the picture.  Sorry....I'm not all that good with the photoshopping.  Which would explain the fall banner I STILL have at the top of my blog.  It always takes me a couple of days to get it put together.  Anyway...back to the notebook.  I used a stamp from Stamping Bella.  This is the first time I've ever really used a stamp other than from Stampin' Up!  Feel like I'm cheating or something...but I bought a couple from Stamping Bella and they are so fun!

More Stamping Bella to come!

Happy Thanksgiving

What we're really talking about is a wonderful day set aside on the fourth Thursday of November when no one diets.  I mean, why else would they call it Thanksgiving?  ~Erma Bombeck, "No One Diets on Thanksgiving," 26 November 1981

Grocery List Notepad

I really like making these Grocery List Notepads.  They are pretty easy to put together and make excellent last minute gifts.

I had normal sized legal pads cut to size at Office Max.  The paper is from a random paper pack from Hobby Lobby.  The Original & Daily Note stamp are from Stampin' Up!'s Office Accoutrement set.  I really have got my money's worth out of this stamp set.

The cutest little bowl of cherries in the world is from Stampin' Up!'s It's the Thought set.

The cute little dragon fly is from the Cricut Songbird cartridge.

I attached a magnet to the back and these are ready for the fridge!!

Handmade Giftbags

I wanted to share with you a fun and inexpensive way to jazz up gift bags.

You can buy plain bags in brown or white at any craft store.  Then using one of the Stampin' Up wheel stamps you can quickly roll any design onto the bag.  This bag I used the snowflake wheel stamp in brocade blue.  I am all about the blue and brown!  I love the wheel stamps because it makes stamping SO EASY!

Just remember if anyone asks you spent a fortune on the bag and it took you a LONG time to make it.

Snow Swirled Christmas Card

Another Christmas card I finished for the shop in town.

I used the Stampin' Up! Snow Swirled stamp set to create this card.  Next week more notebooks!

Winter Post Christmas Cards

I've been working on some Christmas cards for a local shop.  I love love love the Winter Post stamp set and try to find a reason to use it every chance I get.

  • The paper is from a paper set I found at Hobby Lobby on clearance.
  • I used a snowflake wheel to stamp the snowflake background pattern.
  • I got out my Cricut Songbird cartridge again to make the tag-like shape.
  • Then using the Winter Post stamp set I finished the card off.

More Cricut Love

Other than the DVR I swear the Cricut is the next best invention EVER (the toilet, dishwasher and washing machine are pretty good too but this is a craft post so I'll stick with talking about the Cricut).

I used the Paper Dolls cartridge to create these super cute little notebooks.

I think they might be fun little stocking stuffers for someone.  hmmm.....

Acorn filled jars & phobias

Remember these jars?  These are the same little jars that I filled with candy corn last month.  Decided these needed filled with something fall-like.  So, the last time I was at my parents, who live in the woods, I crawled around on my hands and knees picking up acorns and walnuts to fill the jars.  At one point my sister came out the back door and yelled, "Hey Martha supper is ready!"  LOL!  As if Martha would pick up her OWN acorns!

I filled each of the jars with acorns and walnuts and then I used the Cricut Stretch your Imagination cartridge to cut out a turkey, squirrel and a fall tree.

I think they turned out really fun but the whole time I'm doing this I'm thinking of my friend Nikki and how she HATES turkey's and squirrels.  She would be totally freaked out by these cute little guys in her house.

The only one she would like would be the fall tree.

Oh well...we've all got something we are freaked out by.

Pumpkin from the inside out

I forgot to post pics of our pumpkin carving experience.  I was a bad mom and we didn't get to the pumpkin carving till the day after Halloween and then to be honest we never finished them.  We cleaned them out and there they sit on our porch.  There was just so much going on and the kids didn't really seem into this year.

The scraped them clean and then they sorta lost interest.

I caught Bubby looking inside his pumpkin.  He is such a character!

Watch out Annie Oakley!

My dad has been taking defensive shooting classes for the last year and he LOVES it.  He has been passing on his love for the sport to the kids.

Sissy has really taken to shooting.  My dad has been letting her use the BB gun and she is really good at it.  She stays within the target with almost every shot.

Watch out Annie Oakley!!

My new babysitter

Check out my new babysitter.

Isn't it great??  It keeps the kids safe and out of mischief.  Perfect addition to any family yard.

JUST KIDDING!    It's actually a new pen for all our new baby chicks we just purchased.  They finally came in a TINY little box on Friday morning.  The kids are so excited to see them.

Look at the size of that shipping box!  It's about the size of a Wheat Thin box.  Not much room for 25 chicks.  It'll be awhile before they are out in the big pen in the yard.

Right now we are down to 12 laying hens which is really not enough (can't believe I just said that!).  I've got a lot of people wanting eggs every week and it's been hard trying to accommodate them.  Ten of these new ones will be for laying and the rest for Sunday dinner.  Shhh...don't tell them.

Sugar High

I don't know about you but I am about DONE with Halloween and candy.  This town is all about the halloween so we have been trick or treating for DAYS.  Bubby wanted to be a Puma but I couldn't find a costume for him.  Then he decided he wanted to carry a bow and arrow so I thought maybe Robin Hood.  Couldn't find a Robin Hood costume for under $65 so we decided on a hunter.

PERFECT outfit for him really.  He told people he was Camouflage.

Sissy always wants to be something scary for Halloween.  Her friend was a cute kitty.  We were in the car and she says.....
Sissy:  Syd sure was pretty wasn't she?
Me:  Yes she did look cute.  Her mom did a great job on her costume didn't she?
Sissy:  (after thinking about it for awhile)  I don't think you are supposed to be cute on Halloween.
And that is Sissy for you....always wants to be something scary.  I actually made her costume!  I'm pretty proud of myself.

Thursday night we walked up town to trick or treat the merchants on the square.  It was a lot of fun to see everyone all dressed up.

Since we live in the middle of no where it's fun to be able to go to town to trick or treat a bit.

Don't worry...nobody was deprived of any candy!

Hope you had a fun Halloween too!!  How many days till Christmas???
