Creative Weekend

Another reason I have not been blogging is I had been getting ready for a Creative Memories scrapbooking weekend retreat. This was the second year I have hosted a retreat like this. It's a lot of work but so much fun. Sometimes I think I would like to have my own B&B and host events like this all the time but then I think about the cleaning of the bedrooms and toilets and I change my mind.

I held the Retreat at a local B&B and it was amazing!! I could just live there all the time I think! I provided the location and all the food. I was cooking for days BEFORE the event because once we got there I didn't want to be stuck in the kitchen the whole time. I borrowed 2 bread makers from Nikki because I was running out of time.
The MansionOnce there I was able to cook my pies in a old fashioned gas stove. It was so much fun to cook in!
We had lunch in this elegant dining room. I wonder if tacos had ever been served in this room before? Probably not. Can you imagine eating in this room everyday? It's just SO much!

The skylight and balcony on the second floor. This is the level with the most bedrooms.
Our attic workroom. There was so much room and the lighting was amazing!!

The only issue was probably the 36 steps from the main level to the attic. read correctly....36 steps! Doesn't sound all that bad but I think I ran them 3600 times that weekend. My knees wanted to know what mountain they had climbed by Friday night.

Everyone worked and ate.....

and ate....
and ate....
late into the night.....yup...that's 2AM people! This little scrapper was a doll! She sat on the table and watched everything all around her all weekend.
Problem was we got her so excited about using the Cricut and the sticker maker that she wouldn't go to sleep...or was that me? I completed 168 pages. All together we completed 488 pages. Very productive weekend!!

It could be worse but I'm really bummed and ticked off right now. Hubby just received notice today that ALL LEAVE has been cancelled for the remainder of the year!! ALL of our family lives 8 hours from us so that means we do not get to travel home for the holidays. There is no way to make it to family and back in one day.

I know with this economy I should be happy he has a job with money coming in but I can't help feeling sorry for myself. Yesterday I was a I just want to say.....

Dude! I'm blogging!!

I've had a number of emails from my people lately wanting to know why I wasn't blogging....

Reader Feger: 'Dude! Update your blog!'
Reader Swimmer Dawn: 'Dude! Why aren't you updating the blog? Is my knitted hat done yet?'

Who knew I had such a following? Well...I've been busy!!! I have to tell ya dear reader...if I'm blogging then I'm not knitting and if I'm not knitting then you get crap for Christmas. And I can't blog about what I'm knitting or sewing cause then you would know what you are getting. So, now that we have reached an understanding....I will blog today and not knit. You'll be sorry.....

Here are pics of the kids from WEEKS ago when the temp was VERY warm for this time of year. We are TRYING to feed the geese but they wouldn't have anything to do with us. Silly geese...don't they know how this geese feeding thing works?? We throw the bread, they eat, the kids are happy.

Notice how the geese are staying a good distance from shore.
Waiting patiently....
The next day it turned off really cold and snowed like crazy. It was blowing so much it was hard to get a picture.

Swim Class

Thanks to the All Natural Mama I was able to get some great pics of Sissy at swim class. My camera is so slow that by the time it finally clicks she is done swimming!

Sissy LOVES swim lessons. Everyday when I pick her up from school she wants to know how many more days till swim lessons.

This past Saturday she swam all the way across the 9 foot section by herself!

What's Live Mean?

Conversation heard from the living room:

Sissy: "Fast forward through the commercial Daddy."
Daddy: "We can't this is live tv."
Sissy: "What do you mean this is live? Fast forward."
Daddy: "I CAN'T..... I wish I could but it's live so we have to watch the commercial."
Sissy: "Hmmmm.....Let's build a castle instead."
My kids will never know what it's like to have to watch live tv, only have 3 channels, and one phone on the kitchen wall with a cord that is only 2 foot long.

All I can say is thank God for TiVo!!

She's Here!!!

The kids (and me too of course) could not have been more excited for Aunt Dawn to come and visit. The day pretty much went like this....

Sissy: "Is she here yet?"
Me: "No, she is coming Saturday."
Sissy: "Is today Saturday? If it's Saturday then why isn't she here yet?"
Bubby: "Dawn go???"
Me: "We will go and get her after supper?"
Sissy (at 10:30am): "Can we eat now?"

Finally 'after supper' arrived and we were able to meet up with Dawn. Sissy wanted to go to bed immediately just so she could sleep on her trundle bed and Dawn on the top bed.

While she was here we shopped, of course. We had to drive to Wisconsin because Dawn had never been. We ate cheese curds and baked goods. While sitting in front of this church monument we noticed this man's poor name etched in the side....

Surely it's not pronounced the way I am pronouncing it??

It was absolutely the perfect weekend for the trees. They could not have been prettier.

I did....

did you??

Especially if you are a woman you HAVE to vote today. I do not care who you vote for...JUST VOTE! Today I am going to get up on my soap box. I get so aggravated at people, especially women, who do not vote. They always use excuses like, 'it doesn't really matter and they are all crooks so who cares'. It does matter and if we sit home on the couch while others make decisions for us then what kind of example are we setting for our own daughters?

We are so lucky to be born in this time. Less than 100 years ago (LESS THAN 100 YEARS AGO!) American women were not allowed to vote. Personally I find this absurd and if American women continue to sit and let others make decisions for us where will we be in the next 100 years?

In the winter of 1917, Alice Paul and her followers in the National Women's Party picketed the White House. They stood silently at the gates, holding signs that said "Mr. president, how long must women wait for liberty?" The picketers were suffragists and they wanted President Woodrow Wilson to support a Constitutional amendment giving all American women suffrage, or the right to vote.
At first, the suffragists were politely ignored. But on April 6, 1917, the United States entered World War I. The suffragists' signs became more pointed. They taunted Wilson, accusing him of being a hypocrite. How could he send American men to die in a war for democracy when he denied voting rights to women at home? The suffragists became an embarrassment to President Wilson. It was decided the picketing in front of the White House must stop.

Spectators assaulted the picketers, both verbally and physically while the police did nothing to protect the women. The women were arrested and jailed for speaking out.

The picketers were placed in solitary confinement. They were given nothing to eat except bread and water. Using the only power they had the suffragist went on a hunger strike. Afraid the women might die, doctors force fed them. Three times a day for three weeks, they forced a tube down their throats and poured liquids into their stomach. Despite the pain and illness the force feeding caused, Alice Paul and many others refused to end the hunger strike--or their fight for the vote.

After 5 weeks in prison, Alice Paul was set free. The attempts to stop the picketers had backfired. Newspapers carried stories about the jail terms and forced feedings of the suffragists. The stories angered many Americans and created more support than ever for the suffrage amendment.

Finally, on January 9, 1918, Wilson announced his support for suffrage. The next day, the House of Representatives narrowly passed the Susan. B. Anthony Amendment, which would give suffrage to all women citizens. On June 4, 1919, the Senate passed the Amendment by one vote. And a little more than a year later, on August 26, 1920, Tennessee became the 36th state to ratify the amendment. That made it officially the Nineteenth Amendment to the Constitution.

We owe it to our great-grandmothers who did not have the right to vote, own land, or express their opinion. We owe it to our daughters who DO have these rights.

We owe them!

Slight Sugar Buzz

What a night!! As they get older this holiday seems to get REALLY labor intensive. I'm exhausted! Maybe I should go and sneak some candy....hmmmm......

Halloween really is such a fun night. I mean who doesn't like to dress up and ask for free candy??? What a great holiday!
Farmerfoley and myself took the little Indian, cowboy, princess (and horse in the stroller) around the neighborhood. I think Bubby was a little overwhelmed. He didn't seem to really get why we were doing all this walking around asking for candy.

This lovely witch had her front door all decorated so pretty......she really gets into the holiday.
Down the street from us there is a HUGE Halloween display. Traffic is backed up for blocks! I took some pics in the daylight because there are just so many people at night to get a good picture. This is the man responsible. I think he really worked his legs off this year!!
Luckily we were able to find them down the street under a rock.
